Some of you have already received a set of instructions similar to those below. Once we've updated our email records, every member will receive a similar account. On this site - which is an additional tool to our site - we can collaborate as a group, send out membership wide emails, review documents, stay Gmail email as well. Which is a great personal email service in my opinion.

 

1. Go to the HMC Start page - http://start.harrisburgmotorcycleclub.org

 

2. Log in using the username and temporary password sent in the email. You'll be prompted to change your password. You'll see various things that you can customize on the page to your liking as well as other tools that everyone always sees - like the HMC Blog Spot.

 

3. You'll also see our HMC Blog entries like this one. Here's where you can quickly check the status of upcoming meetings and important announcements. If you have another blog reader you use - you can subscribe to the HMC Blog - ask Mike Boyle how if you need assistance - mboyle@harrisburgmotorcycleclub.org

3. Your new email address will be <your username>@harrisburgmotorcycleclub.org You can check your email from the start page after logging in by clicking on Mail or email or By entering/clicking  http://gmail.harrisburgmotorcycleclub.org in your browser and entering your username and password.

Google Apps will let our members communicate and work together online, all for free!! Google Apps allows us to offer HMC specific email accounts, instant messaging, and calendars right on our own domain name (for example, mboyle@harrisburgmotorcycleclub.org). This will to keep our group in close contact and build upon our online identity.

 

Effective communication is critical to the club. Google Apps will help us bring our offline community online more easily by providing connecting us no matter where we are.

Once you sign up for Gmail - your Gmail inbox will also have instant messaging built right into the browser so you can see when the people you know are online and connect to them instantly. We'll be able to create documents in Google Docs & Spreadsheets and multiple people from the club can add their ideas and edits at the same time.

You can also check here for scheduled events and schedule events, create blog entries etc. With Google Calendar we'll create and post a group calendar, and if you like you can share your personal schedules so we know who's available when, and create event invitations so keeping track of RSVPs is easy. Since Google Calendar will use the club contact list from Gmail, it'll be easier to invite people to that upcoming celebration, work party, ride or meeting.
